STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA                                        TOWN OF BLYTHEWOOD

A special election in Town of Blythewood will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 (SC Code 7-13-190). If a runoff is necessary, a runoff election will be held two weeks after the first election. The following office shall be included in this election:

Candidate Filing Period:

Filing Opens: 12:00 noon on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Filing Closes: 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Filing Hours:  Weekdays: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Closed Weekends and December 22, 25 and 26, 2023

Filing locations: Statement of Intention of Candidacy will be accepted at Blythewood Town Hall 171 Langford Road Blythewood, SC 29016.

Filing Fee: The filing fee for office of Town Council member is $5.00 Filing fee checks should be made payable to Town of Blythewood.

State Ethics Filings: Candidates are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests and a Campaign Disclosure online with the State Ethics Commission at http://ethics.sc.gov.

Failure to file these documents may result in a candidate fine but will not disqualify a candidate from the election. Contact the State Ethics Commission for more information. Registering Ill Vote: Only the electors living within municipal boundaries of the Town of Blythewood may participate in this election. The last day to register to vote in person for this election is Friday, January 26, 2024, by 5:00 p.m. at the Richland County Voter Registration Office. Voter registration on line, by fax, or by email must be entered no later than Sunday, January 28, 2023, at 11:59 pm. Voter registration by mail forms will be accepted if postmarked no later than Monday, January 29, 2024.

  • Visit the Office of The Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Richland County at 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29204. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Absentee Voting: Registered electors who cannot vote in person on the day of the election and who will be out of the county for the duration of early voting may be eligible to vote by absentee ballot. Completed applications must be returned no later than 5:00 p.m. on the eleventh day before the day of the election. Absentee ballot application requests can be obtained by phone (803-576-2240) or in person at the Richland County Voter Registration Office, 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia, S.C.

Early Voting: Will begin Monday, February 12, 2024, and end Friday, February 23, 2024, at 2020 Hampton Street. Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. (Closed Monday, February 19, 2024 State Holiday). 

Absentee Ballot Examination: At 9:00 AM on the day before the election, the Richland County Election Commission will begin its examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes at The Voter Registration and Elections Office, 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29204.

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:30 am, the Richland County Board of Canvassers will hold a hearing to determine the validity of all provisional ballots cast in this election. This hearing will be held at The Voter Registration and Elections Office, 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29204, County Council Chambers.

Registered voters will be asked to provide one of the following Photo IDs at their polling place:

S.C. Driver's License • ID Card issued by S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles

S.C. Voter Registration Card with Photo • Federal Military ID • U.S. Passport

If you have one of these IDs, you are ready to vote. Voters should remember to bring one of these IDs with them to the polling place. Voters without Photo ID can get one free of charge from the Department of Motor Vehicles or their county voter registration office.
