BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS


The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the third Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at Doko Manor, 100 Alvina Hagood Circle Blythewood, South Carolina. Special meetings are scheduled as needed.

The Zoning Board of Appeals is an independent Board consisting of seven members appointed by the Mayor. The Board reviews and renders decisions on all variations to the regulations of the Zoning Code. In addition, the Board reviews appeals on matters where the applicant feels staff has misinterpreted the Zoning Code. The only appeal an individual has beyond the Zoning Board of Appeals is to the Circuit Court System. The Board:
  1. Reviews applications for Certificates of Appropriateness and written appeals regarding decisions made by a planning official.
  2. Reviews and approves or disapproves conditions of construction, reconstruction, and alterations of exterior appearances, including repair and change of exterior color where improvement value exceeds $25,000.00.
  3. Enforces Board of Architectural Review standards and considers variances for extraordinary conditions.
  4. Promotes the purposes of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
  5. Provides formal recommendations to the Town Council and/orPlanning Commission on ordinance adoption, amendment, and historic property designation.
