Why do I need a business license?
Every person engaged in, or intending to engage in, any calling, business, occupation, or profession listed in the rate classification index, in whole or in part, within the limits of the Town of Blythewood, South Carolina, is required to pay an annual license fee for the privilege of doing business and to obtain a business license as outlined in the Town's ordinances.
When do I need a business license?
Any time a person or business is (1) physically located in or (2) conducts business in the Town of Blythewood, regardless of where the business is located, an annual business license fee is required. A business license is required even if no income has been generated.
How much does a business license cost, and what do I need to have or do to obtain one?
The business license fee is determined by several factors, including: (1) where the business is located, (2) the type of business being conducted, and (3) the business’ gross revenue. Please contact the Town Clerk for assistance in calculating your business license fee.
How do I know which licensing jurisdiction I need to visit to obtain my business license?
You must obtain a business license for each jurisdiction in which you do business that also requires a business license.
How do I find out in which licensing jurisdiction my business is located?
Go to the Richland County’s GIS mapping website. In the left-hand column, click the box beside Municipalities. Click the Search icon above that column, then type the street number and street name to determine the jurisdiction in which your business is located. A map will appear, showing the location of the address you typed in, along with the municipality in which the address is located, if the location is within a municipality.
If I am moving my business to a new location, do I need a new business license?
Yes. You are required to obtain a new license and to report the change of address to the Town Clerk within 10 days after the business moves.
Are any businesses exempt from Blythewood's business license requirement?
Yes. Charitable organizations which have exemptions from state and federal income taxes are exempt from a business license tax only in cases where the sponsors, organizers, directors, trustees or persons who exercise ultimate control of the organization receive no part of the proceeds of operation, and all proceeds are devoted to charitable purposes.
If I am buying a business that already has a business license, do I need to get a business license myself?
Yes. A business license is not transferable, and a transfer of controlling interest is considered a termination of the old business and the establishment of a new business requiring a new business license, based on an old business income.

No, our insurance carrier prohibits us form allowing those items in the park.
Is there a lost and found?
Yes, it is located at Town Hall. Items not claimed after 30 days are donated to charitable organizations. To claim items, call (803) 754-0501, or stop by Town Hall Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
Do Blythewood residents pay property taxes?
The town does not levy a property tax at this time. All Blythewood property owners (whether inside or outside the town limits) are assessed property taxes by Richland County. If you have questions about your county taxes, please call the Richland County Tax Assessor at (803) 576-2640.
When/where is the Blythewood Farmer's Market?
The Blythewood Farmer's Market is held every Wednesday from 4 pm- 7 pm from May until October. It is located at Doko Meadows Park.
